Ensure that residents are educated on 2C.
Promote the use of bothe metric and imperial systems. e.g Denver is about 60Mile /92Km away. Temp today is 72F/ 22C...etc
Raise property taxes to .001 mil below the next lowest property tax rate in the state so we can get more funding and still say we have the lowest property taxes in the state.Raise the local Gas Tax by .15 to .25c per gallon to help fund additional repaving projects via PPRTA. We all drive academy and we all know how bad the roads are around here.. Would you rather pay a few bucks more at the pump or continue to wear out the struts/shocks in your car (a $600 repair at minimum)?Make the mayors office a $100,000 a year job. Our mayor should not be working a 9-5 for a corporation and running the city in his spare time after he gets off from work. Keep the utilities city owned, this works out in our favor a lot more than we give it credit for. SDS may be a giant pain, but it still doesn't mean we should dump it. Its a public utility and we should not leave it to "market" forces, the focus will then become short term profits instead of long term vision. The way to make COS rock is to create more freedom. Sure, legalize gay marriage, good. Legalize marijuana, good. Spend tax dollars to build a rink or provide bikes for all? bad. These will only benefit some, yet everyone must pay for them. If you wanna make COS better, don't play their game and decide for everyone what is best for us. Many a folk went astray in the name of making the world a better place. It's mostly the little things that bother me about our city. Little things that, if they were in order, would spread a more positive vibe about our city. Particularly little ugly and annoying things I see near the UCCS campus. Why are there trees and shrubs growing out of the street gutters and cracks in the (usually uneven and decaying) sidewalks across from UCCS? There's one tree that must be 10 feet tall that is growing out of the street/gutter interface directly across from UCCS! It looks junky. It's a little thing, but it's ugly and represents how we care for our city. Also, what's with the lack of sidewalks and the lack of over/under passes near UCCS? How many students walk across Austin Bluffs each day? HUNDREDS! Many cross Austin Bluffs at Meadow. THERE ARE NO SIDEWALKS DOWN MEADOW! DUH! Come on city! Come on planners! Also, there is one big thing that annoys me.. UCCS and the city sure dropped the ball on 'greening' the new Nevada strip mall scene that's coming! Oh goodie! Another Kohl's and other big box (temporary) places! We sure need more of that sort of 'beautification' in our city (not to mention the impending light pollution)!
